Pressurization
Pressurization is the process of artificially increasing the air pressure inside an aircraft cabin to a level that is comfortable for passengers and crew to breathe. This is necessary because at high altitudes, the air pressure outside the aircraft is too low to sustain human life. The pressurization system typically consists of an air supply, compressors, ducts, valves, and controllers. The system maintains a cabin altitude of around 8,000 feet even when the aircraft is flying at much higher altitudes. Failure of the pressurization system can lead to hypoxia, a condition in which the body is deprived of oxygen, and can be fatal.
