Probable Cause
Probable Cause is a legal term used in aviation accident investigation to determine the cause of an accident. It refers to the cause or causes of an accident that can be established by a reasonable and logical deduction from the available evidence. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is responsible for determining the probable cause of aviation accidents in the United States. The probable cause statement is included in the final accident report and is used to improve aviation safety by identifying the factors that contributed to the accident.
