Runway Visual Range
Runway Visual Range (RVR) is the distance over which a pilot of an aircraft on the centerline of a runway can see the runway surface markings or the lights delineating the runway or identifying its centerline. RVR is measured by transmissometers or by the human eye. It is an important parameter for pilots during takeoff, landing, and taxiing, especially in adverse weather conditions such as fog, rain, or snow. RVR values are reported in feet or meters and are classified into different categories based on the distance. The RVR value is used to determine the minimum visibility required for a pilot to land on a runway.
