Self-contained Breathing Apparatus
Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is a device worn by rescue workers, firefighters, and others to provide breathable air in an immediately dangerous to life or health atmosphere. It consists of a compressed air cylinder, a pressure regulator, and a face mask or mouthpiece. The cylinder is worn on the back and is connected to the face mask or mouthpiece by a hose. The pressure regulator reduces the high pressure of the air in the cylinder to a lower pressure that is safe for breathing. SCBA is used in aviation for emergency situations such as fire, smoke, or toxic fumes in the cabin or on the ground.
