Service Animals
Service animals are animals that are trained to perform specific tasks for individuals with disabilities. In aviation context, service animals are allowed to accompany their owners in the cabin of an aircraft. The most common types of service animals are dogs, but other animals such as cats, miniature horses, and birds may also be trained as service animals. The tasks that service animals perform can include guiding individuals who are blind or visually impaired, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing stability or balance for individuals with mobility impairments, and alerting individuals to the presence of allergens or other medical conditions. Airlines are required by law to allow service animals to travel with their owners, but there are specific rules and regulations that must be followed to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
