Shielding Effectiveness
Shielding Effectiveness is the measure of the ability of a shield to reduce the electromagnetic field to a level that does not interfere with the normal operation of the equipment. In aviation, shielding effectiveness is important to protect the aircraft's electronic systems from electromagnetic interference (EMI) caused by external sources such as lightning, solar flares, and radio frequency (RF) emissions. Shielding effectiveness is measured in decibels (dB) and is influenced by factors such as the material used for the shield, the thickness of the shield, and the frequency of the electromagnetic field. A high shielding effectiveness is necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the aircraft's electronic systems.
