Decibels

Decibels (dB) are a unit of measurement used in aviation to express the intensity of sound or noise. In aviation, decibels are used to measure the noise level of aircraft engines, which is an important factor in determining the impact of aviation on the environment and surrounding communities. The decibel scale is logarithmic, which means that a small increase in decibels represents a large increase in sound intensity. For example, a 10 dB increase in sound level represents a 10-fold increase in sound intensity. The maximum noise level allowed for aircraft is regulated by international organizations such as the International civil aviation organization (ICAO) and the Federal aviation administration (FAA).
