Static Electricity

Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within or on the surface of a material. In aviation, static electricity can be a hazard as it can accumulate on an aircraft's surface during flight, particularly in dry or dusty conditions. This can cause a spark which may ignite fuel vapors or other flammable materials. To prevent this, aircraft are equipped with static wicks, which are thin metal strips attached to the trailing edges of the wings, tail, and other surfaces. These wicks help to dissipate the static charge and prevent the buildup of static electricity.
