Territorial Water
Territorial water is a belt of coastal waters extending at most 12 nautical miles from the baseline of a coastal state. The sovereignty of a coastal state extends to its territorial waters, including the airspace over and seabed below these waters. In aviation, territorial waters are important for determining the jurisdiction of a coastal state over flights that operate within this area. Pilots must comply with the regulations of the coastal state when flying over its territorial waters. Additionally, territorial waters are used as reference points for navigation and search and rescue operations.
