Nautical Miles
Nautical miles are a unit of measurement used in aviation to calculate distances between two points. One nautical mile is equal to 1.852 kilometers or 1.1508 miles. This unit of measurement is used because it is based on the circumference of the earth and is therefore more accurate for measuring distances over the earth's surface. Pilots use nautical miles to calculate the distance between two airports, the distance to their destination, and the distance they can travel on a given amount of fuel.
