Thermocouples

Thermocouples are temperature sensors that consist of two different metals joined together at one end. When the joined end is exposed to heat or cold, a voltage is produced that can be correlated to the temperature. In aviation, thermocouples are commonly used in aircraft engines to measure exhaust gas temperature (EGT) and turbine inlet temperature (TIT). These measurements are critical for monitoring engine performance and preventing damage from overheating. Thermocouples are also used in other aircraft systems, such as environmental control systems and avionics cooling systems.
