Time-based Separation
Time-based separation (TBS) is a method used by air traffic controllers to manage the spacing between arriving aircraft during final approach. It is a safety measure that ensures a minimum time interval between two consecutive aircraft landing on the same runway. The TBS is calculated based on the type of aircraft, its approach speed, and the prevailing weather conditions. The aim of TBS is to reduce the risk of wake turbulence, which can be hazardous to following aircraft. TBS is particularly useful in busy airports where there is a high volume of traffic and limited runway capacity.
