Touchdown Zone Lights
Touchdown Zone Lights (TDZL) are a series of synchronized unidirectional light bars installed in the runway touchdown zone. They are used to provide the pilot with visual cues to help align the aircraft with the runway centerline during approach and landing. TDZL are typically white in color and extend for 3,000 feet along the runway. They are spaced at 100-foot intervals and are typically located 75 feet from the runway centerline. TDZL are especially useful during low visibility conditions, such as fog or heavy rain, when the pilot's ability to see the runway is reduced.
