United States Orbital Segment
The United States Orbital Segment (USOS) is a part of the International Space Station (ISS) that is operated and managed by NASA and its international partners. It includes all the elements launched by NASA's Space Shuttle and the European and Japanese modules. The USOS is one of two main segments of the ISS, the other being the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS). The USOS has a variety of functions, including housing the crew's living quarters, laboratories for research, and systems for life support, power, thermal control, and communication. It also includes equipment for extravehicular activity and docking ports for visiting spacecraft. The USOS operates on a different electrical standard and uses a different docking system than the ROS. The USOS and ROS are connected and work together to maintain the ISS and support its mission of scientific research and international cooperation in space.
