Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range
Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) is a type of short-range radio navigation system for aircraft, enabling aircraft with a receiving unit to determine its position and stay on course by receiving radio signals transmitted by a network of fixed ground radio beacons. VOR works by measuring the difference in phase between a signal transmitted from a ground station and a reference signal generated by the receiver. This information is then used to determine the aircraft's bearing from the station. VOR is widely used in aviation as a primary means of navigation, especially in instrument flight rules (IFR) operations.
