Vestibular Illusions

Vestibular illusions are a type of spatial disorientation that occurs when there is a conflict between the information received by the vestibular system (inner ear) and other sensory systems, such as vision or proprioception. This can cause a pilot to misperceive their orientation, motion, or position in space, leading to potentially dangerous flight maneuvers. Vestibular illusions can be caused by various factors, such as turbulence, acceleration, or unusual attitudes, and can be exacerbated by fatigue, stress, or medication. Some common types of vestibular illusions include the leans, the graveyard spiral, and the Coriolis illusion.
