Warsaw Convention

The Warsaw Convention is a multilateral treaty that was signed in 1929 in Warsaw, Poland, which standardized and regulated the conditions of international transportation by air. It specifically addresses issues of liability and compensation in the event of accidents during international air travel. The convention established that airlines are liable for harm to passengers, baggage, and cargo, and set limits on the extent of their liability. It also required passengers to be issued with a ticket as proof of their contract of carriage, which must include specific details such as the places of departure and destination. The Warsaw Convention was amended several times, most notably by the Hague Protocol of 1955 and the Montreal Protocol of 1975, which increased the liability limits. Despite these amendments, many aspects of the Warsaw Convention remain in force and continue to apply to international air transportation.
