Water-based refers to any substance or material that is primarily composed of water or can be diluted with water. In aviation, water-based coatings are commonly used for aircraft painting and corrosion protection. These coatings are environmentally friendly and have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Water-based fire extinguishers are also used in aircraft as they are effective in extinguishing fires caused by flammable liquids and electrical equipment. Additionally, water-based hydraulic fluids are used in some aircraft systems as they are less flammable and have better lubricating properties than traditional petroleum-based fluids.
