Wind Shear Hazard
Wind shear hazard refers to the sudden change in wind speed and/or direction over a short distance, which can occur at any altitude. Wind shear can be caused by a variety of factors, including thunderstorms, temperature inversions, and frontal boundaries. Wind shear is a significant hazard to aviation, particularly during takeoff and landing, as it can cause a sudden loss or gain of airspeed, altitude, and/or lift. This can result in a loss of control of the aircraft, and in severe cases, a crash. To mitigate the risk of wind shear hazard, pilots rely on weather reports and forecasts, as well as onboard systems such as radar and wind shear alert systems.
