ADS-Contract
In the context of aviation, ADS-Contract (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract) is a method of surveillance in which aircraft automatically provide, via a data link, data derived from on-board navigation and position-fixing systems, including aircraft identification, four-dimensional position (latitude, longitude, altitude and time), and additional data as appropriate. The 'contract' part of ADS-Contract refers to the agreement established between the ground system and the aircraft system for the provision of ADS reports. This contract specifies under what conditions ADS reports would be initiated, and what data would be contained in the reports. The ADS-Contract is a crucial part of modern aviation, providing a more accurate and reliable method of tracking aircraft, particularly in areas where radar coverage is sparse or non-existent, such as over the ocean or in remote regions.
