AFFF stands for Aqueous Film Forming Foam, which is a type of fire extinguishing agent used in aviation. AFFF is a mixture of water, a fluorochemical surfactant, and a solvent. When AFFF is applied to a fire, it forms a film on the surface of the fuel, which separates the fuel from the air and extinguishes the fire. AFFF is commonly used in aircraft hangars, fuel storage facilities, and on board aircraft. It is effective on Class B fires, which involve flammable liquids and gases, and Class A fires, which involve ordinary combustibles such as wood and paper. AFFF is preferred over other types of fire extinguishing agents in aviation because it is effective, fast-acting, and does not damage aircraft or other equipment.
