Air Carrier Access Act
The Air carrier access act (ACAA) is a United States federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in air travel and requires air carriers to accommodate the needs of passengers with disabilities. The ACAA applies to all flights of US airlines, as well as foreign airlines that depart from or arrive in the US. The law requires airlines to provide assistance with boarding and deplaning, as well as with stowing and retrieving carry-on items. It also requires airlines to make their aircraft and facilities accessible to passengers with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Additionally, the ACAA mandates that airlines allow service animals to accompany passengers with disabilities in the cabin, free of charge.
