Air-to-air Missile

An air-to-air missile (AAM) is a guided missile fired from an aircraft for the purpose of destroying another aircraft. AAMs are typically powered by one or more rocket motors, usually solid fueled but sometimes liquid fueled. They can be launched from a variety of aircraft, including fighters, bombers, and helicopters. AAMs are designed to home in on the heat signature of an enemy aircraft's engines or the radar reflection of the aircraft itself. They can be guided by radar, infrared homing, or a combination of both. AAMs are an essential component of modern air warfare, providing a means of engaging enemy aircraft at long ranges.
