Approach Types
Approach Types refer to the different methods used by pilots to land an aircraft. There are several types of approaches, including visual, instrument, precision, non-precision, and circling approaches. Visual approaches are made by the pilot visually sighting the runway and surrounding terrain. Instrument approaches are made using the aircraft's instruments and navigation aids. Precision approaches are made using a combination of instrument and ground-based navigation aids, providing the pilot with precise lateral and vertical guidance. Non-precision approaches provide lateral guidance only, and the pilot must visually determine the aircraft's altitude. Circling approaches are made when the pilot must circle the airport to align with the runway. The type of approach used depends on the weather conditions, the aircraft's equipment, and the pilot's training and experience.
