Precision Approaches
Precision Approaches are instrument approaches to an airport that provide lateral and vertical guidance to the runway using electronic systems such as Instrument Landing System (ILS), Microwave Landing System (MLS), or Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). These approaches allow pilots to land in low visibility conditions, such as fog or heavy rain, with a high degree of accuracy. The precision approach systems provide the pilot with information on the aircraft's position relative to the runway centerline and glidepath, enabling the pilot to make precise adjustments to the aircraft's flight path. The decision height, or the altitude at which the pilot must decide whether to continue the approach or execute a missed approach, is typically lower for precision approaches than for non-precision approaches.
