Barometric Altimeter
A barometric altimeter is an instrument used to measure the altitude of an aircraft above a fixed level. It works by measuring the atmospheric pressure and converting it into an altitude reading. The instrument consists of an aneroid barometer, which is a sealed capsule that expands or contracts as the atmospheric pressure changes. As the aircraft climbs or descends, the capsule expands or contracts, causing a pointer to move on a dial calibrated in feet or meters. The barometric altimeter is an essential instrument for safe flight, as it allows pilots to maintain a safe altitude and avoid collisions with other aircraft or terrain.
