Atmospheric Pressure
Atmospheric pressure is the force exerted by the weight of the Earth's atmosphere on the surface below. In aviation, atmospheric pressure is an important factor in determining the altitude of an aircraft. As an aircraft climbs, the atmospheric pressure decreases, and the altimeter must be adjusted to reflect this change. The standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is 1013.25 hPa or 29.92 inches of mercury (inHg). Changes in atmospheric pressure can also affect weather patterns and can cause turbulence, which can be hazardous to aircraft. Therefore, pilots must constantly monitor atmospheric pressure and adjust their flight accordingly.
