Civil aviation refers to all non-military aviation activities, including both commercial and general aviation. It encompasses the operation of all aircraft used for purposes other than military defense or law enforcement, such as air transportation of passengers and cargo, aerial firefighting, search and rescue, and aerial surveying. Civil aviation is regulated by national and international aviation authorities to ensure safety and security. The International civil aviation organization (ICAO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that sets global standards for civil aviation and coordinates international air transport.
