Class B
Class B airspace is the airspace designated by the Federal aviation administration (FAA) surrounding the busiest airports in the United States. This airspace is designed to protect the safety of aircraft operating in and out of these airports by imposing certain restrictions on aircraft flying in the area. Class B airspace is typically shaped like an upside-down wedding cake, with the airport as the center and the airspace expanding outward in a series of concentric rings. Pilots must obtain clearance from air traffic control before entering Class B airspace, and aircraft operating within the airspace must meet certain equipment and performance requirements.
