Code-sharing

In the context of aviation, code-sharing is a business arrangement between two or more airlines where an airline places its designator code on a flight operated by another airline and sells tickets for that flight. This allows airlines to expand their network and offer passengers more destinations without operating additional routes themselves. Code-sharing agreements are part of the larger airline alliances and can cover various forms of transportation including air, rail, or sea. The benefits of code-sharing for airlines include cost savings, operational efficiencies, and increased market presence. For passengers, code-sharing can provide more convenient schedules, easier connections, and seamless travel with a single ticket for multiple segments. However, it can also lead to confusion as passengers may not be aware that they are actually flying with a different airline than the one they booked with. Code-sharing is regulated by aviation authorities and subject to bilateral air service agreements between countries.
