Communication Satellite

A communication satellite is an artificial satellite that relays and amplifies radio telecommunications signals via a transponder; it creates a communication channel between source transmitter and a receiver at different locations on Earth. Communication satellites are used for television, telephone, radio, internet, and military applications. They are also used for mobile applications such as maritime, aviation, and land-based mobile applications. Communication satellites are placed in geostationary orbit, which means they orbit the Earth at the same rate as the Earth rotates, so they appear to be stationary relative to a fixed point on the Earth's surface.
