Controlled Airspace

Controlled airspace is a designated airspace within which air traffic control (ATC) services are provided. The primary purpose of controlled airspace is to prevent collisions between aircraft and provide a safe, orderly flow of air traffic. Controlled airspace is typically found around busy airports and in areas where there is a high volume of air traffic. The boundaries of controlled airspace are defined by the Federal aviation administration (FAA) and are depicted on aeronautical charts. Pilots operating within controlled airspace are required to follow specific procedures and obtain clearance from ATC before entering or exiting the airspace.
