De-icing Fluid

De-icing fluid is a specially formulated chemical mixture used to remove ice, snow, and frost from the surface of aircraft before takeoff. It is typically made up of a mixture of glycol and water, and sometimes includes other additives such as corrosion inhibitors and surfactants. De-icing fluid is applied to the aircraft using specialized equipment, such as trucks with extendable booms or handheld sprayers. The fluid works by lowering the freezing point of water, causing ice and snow to melt and preventing further accumulation. It is important for aircraft to be properly de-iced to ensure safe takeoff and flight.
