Electromagnetic Signals

Electromagnetic signals refer to the waves of energy that are produced by the movement of charged particles. In aviation, electromagnetic signals are used for communication and navigation purposes. Communication signals are transmitted between aircraft and air traffic control towers, while navigation signals are used by aircraft to determine their position and course. The most commonly used navigation signals in aviation are the VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR) and the Instrument Landing System (ILS). These signals are transmitted from ground-based stations and received by aircraft through antennas. Electromagnetic signals are also used in weather radar systems to detect and track storms, and in collision avoidance systems to alert pilots of nearby aircraft.
