Emergency Locator Transmitters
Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) are devices that are installed in aircraft to transmit a distress signal in the event of an emergency. ELTs are designed to operate automatically in the event of a crash or other impact, and can also be manually activated by the crew in the event of an emergency. The signal transmitted by an ELT is picked up by search and rescue teams, who can use it to locate the aircraft and provide assistance to the crew. ELTs are an important safety feature in aviation, and are required by law in many countries.
