Flight Safety Management Systems

Flight Safety Management Systems (FSMS) are comprehensive, systematic approaches to managing safety within the aviation industry. They involve a set of procedures, practices, and policies designed to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks associated with flight operations. FSMS are typically implemented by airlines, airports, and other aviation service providers to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and ground personnel. The system is based on four key components: safety policy and objectives, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion. Safety assurance is about monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of safety management, while safety promotion involves training and communication to foster a positive safety culture. FSMS are crucial in maintaining and improving the safety standards in aviation, and they are mandated by international aviation regulatory bodies such as the International civil aviation organization (ICAO).
