Functional Cargo Block

In the context of aviation, a Functional Cargo Block (FCB) refers to a modular unit used in the construction of spacecraft, specifically in the Russian space program. The FCB is a self-contained, autonomous module that carries all the necessary systems for its specific mission. This includes propulsion, power generation, life support, and other systems. The FCB is designed to be launched and operated independently, or as part of a larger spacecraft. The concept of the FCB was first introduced in the 1960s, and has been used in a number of Russian spacecraft, including the Soyuz and Progress spacecraft, as well as the Mir and International Space Station. The use of FCBs allows for a high degree of flexibility in spacecraft design, as different modules can be combined in various configurations to meet the needs of specific missions. In addition, the modular nature of the FCB allows for easier maintenance and upgrades, as individual modules can be replaced or serviced without affecting the rest of the spacecraft.
