High-altitude Environments

High-altitude environments refer to areas above 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) where the atmospheric pressure and available oxygen decrease, making it difficult for humans to breathe and function normally. In aviation, high-altitude environments are of particular concern for pilots and passengers of aircraft that fly at high altitudes, such as commercial airliners and military aircraft. At high altitudes, the reduced air pressure and oxygen levels can cause hypoxia, a condition in which the body does not receive enough oxygen, leading to impaired judgment, confusion, and even loss of consciousness. To mitigate the risks associated with high-altitude environments, aircraft are equipped with pressurization systems that maintain a comfortable cabin pressure and oxygen levels for passengers and crew.
