Hydroplaning Risk

Hydroplaning is a phenomenon that occurs when a layer of water builds up between the tires of an aircraft and the runway surface, causing a loss of traction and control. This can happen when the runway is wet, and the aircraft is traveling at a high speed. The risk of hydroplaning increases with the depth of the water, the speed of the aircraft, and the condition of the tires. Hydroplaning can cause the aircraft to skid or slide off the runway, leading to serious accidents and damage to the aircraft. To reduce the risk of hydroplaning, pilots should reduce their speed when landing or taking off on wet runways, ensure that the tires are properly inflated and have good tread, and avoid standing water on the runway.
