Landmark

In aviation, a landmark is a prominent visual feature or fixed object used as a point of reference for navigation. Landmarks can be natural or man-made and are often used in conjunction with navigational aids such as radio beacons or GPS. Pilots use landmarks to help them navigate along a planned route, to identify their position, and to locate airports or other important landmarks. Examples of landmarks include mountains, rivers, lakes, cities, highways, and buildings. Landmarks are an important part of visual flight rules (VFR) navigation, where pilots rely on visual cues to navigate rather than relying solely on instruments.
