Longitudinal Axis
In aviation, the longitudinal axis is an imaginary line that runs parallel to the length of the aircraft from the nose to the tail. It is one of the three primary axes used to describe the movement and orientation of an aircraft in flight. The longitudinal axis is also known as the roll axis, as it is the axis around which an aircraft rolls during flight. The movement of the aircraft along the longitudinal axis is controlled by the ailerons, which are located on the trailing edge of the wings and move in opposite directions to create a rolling motion. The longitudinal axis is important in determining an aircraft's stability and maneuverability.
