Nautical Mile

A nautical mile is a unit of measurement used in air and marine navigation, equal to one minute of arc along a meridian of the Earth. It is approximately 1.15 statute miles or 1.85 kilometers. The use of nautical miles is important in aviation as it allows for more accurate and standardized distance measurements, particularly over long distances. Pilots use nautical miles to calculate fuel consumption, flight time, and to determine the distance between two points on a chart. Additionally, air traffic controllers use nautical miles to provide separation between aircraft.
