Nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) is a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in aviation due to its high energy density, reliability, and ability to withstand extreme temperatures. Ni-Cd batteries are often used in aircraft for emergency power, as well as for starting the aircraft's engines. They are also used in portable electronic devices such as radios and GPS units. However, Ni-Cd batteries have a limited lifespan and can suffer from memory effect if not properly maintained. In recent years, there has been a shift towards using newer battery technologies such as lithium-ion in aviation applications.
