North Atlantic High Level Airspace

North Atlantic High level airspace (NAT HLA) is the portion of airspace above the North Atlantic Ocean where aircraft operate at flight levels above 285, excluding the lower airspace of the Reykjavik, Shanwick, Gander, and Santa Maria Oceanic Control Areas. The NAT HLA is divided into six organized track systems, which are determined daily based on the prevailing winds and weather patterns. The airspace is heavily trafficked by commercial airlines flying between North America and Europe, and strict procedures and communication protocols are in place to ensure safe and efficient operations.
