NAT HLA
The North atlantic high level airspace (NAT HLA) is the portion of the North Atlantic airspace above FL285 where the traffic is subject to strategic lateral and vertical separation. The NAT HLA is divided into six organized track systems (OTS) that are oriented in an east-west direction. The OTS are separated from each other by a minimum of 50 nautical miles. The NAT HLA is a challenging airspace due to the limited communication, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) infrastructure. The airspace is also subject to rapidly changing weather patterns and strong jet streams that can cause significant turbulence and affect the aircraft performance.
