Piston Engine
A piston engine is a type of internal combustion engine that uses reciprocating pistons to convert pressure into rotating motion. In aviation, piston engines are commonly used in small aircraft, such as single-engine planes and helicopters. These engines are typically powered by aviation gasoline (avgas) and are known for their reliability and ease of maintenance. Piston engines are classified by the number of cylinders they have, with the most common configurations being four, six, and eight cylinders. They are also classified by their cooling system, with air-cooled and liquid-cooled engines being the two main types. Despite the rise of turbine engines in aviation, piston engines remain popular for their lower cost and fuel efficiency.
