RNAV Procedures
RNAV (Area Navigation) Procedures are instrument flight procedures that allow aircraft to fly on any desired flight path within the coverage of ground- or space-based navigation aids or within the limits of the capability of self-contained aids, or a combination of these. RNAV procedures are based on area navigation, which allows greater flexibility than traditional ground-based navigation systems. RNAV procedures can be designed for both en-route and terminal operations, and can be used for both non-precision and precision approaches. RNAV procedures are typically used in modern aircraft equipped with GPS or other navigation systems that meet the required performance standards.
