Standby
Standby refers to a state of readiness in aviation where an aircraft or its crew is prepared to take over the duties of another aircraft or crew in case of an emergency or unexpected event. Standby can also refer to a mode of operation for aircraft systems or equipment, where they are kept in a state of readiness to be activated at short notice. In commercial aviation, standby is often used for passengers who do not have a confirmed seat on a flight but are waiting to see if space becomes available. During this time, they must be available at the airport and ready to board the flight at short notice.
