Supersonic Speed

Supersonic speed is a rate of travel through the air that exceeds the speed of sound, which is approximately 767 miles per hour (1,235 kilometers per hour) at sea level and 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius). In aviation, supersonic speed is achieved by aircraft that are designed to travel faster than the speed of sound. These aircraft are typically military fighter jets or experimental aircraft, although there have been some commercial supersonic aircraft in the past. Supersonic flight requires special considerations, such as the effects of shock waves and sonic booms, and can be challenging to achieve and maintain.
