TACAN

TACAN stands for Tactical Air Navigation. It is a radio navigation system used by military aircraft. TACAN provides the pilot with bearing and distance information to a ground station. The system operates in the frequency band of 960-1215 MHz and uses a UHF transmitter and a VHF receiver. TACAN is a more accurate and reliable system than VOR (VHF Omni-Directional Range) and is used for both en-route navigation and precision approach. The system also provides the pilot with distance and bearing information to other TACAN-equipped aircraft, allowing for air-to-air navigation and formation flying.
